Letter: Obama blew off website oversight

Regarding "We need fixes, not scapegoats" (Oct. 31): The Afforda-ble Health Care Act is President Obama's capstone achievement. It passed 3.5 years ago. He had 3.5 years to anticipate that any big, new software system would encounter problems and to make his top priority that the system would be debugged and ready to go. That task took on extra urgency because Congress tried 40 times to kill Obamacare, and it became the fulcrum of the government shutdown.

Instead, Obama delegated this major commitment and his credibility to his "experts."

When the website crashed, he dissembled: the system was "overloaded" because so many people wanted it. It was as if we had no right to expect that a system that cost $600 million of our tax dollars would work right the first time. It took him 19 days to acknowledge that it needed to be fixed. Had it worked the way it should, Obama could have gone back to Congress and said, "Defund Obamacare? Why don't you ask the million people who signed on last week, including your own constituents, if they want to give up their benefits?" He would have mooted the issue. Instead, Obama's pathological indifference to people has frustrated millions of Americans.

Obama's apologists claim that software glitches are to be expected, and that the system will be fixed eventually. The manned space program in its day was far more complex than Obamacare. But a succession of presidents - Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon - recognized that lives were at stake, and that American prestige, and their own credibility, rode with each mission. They made sure that everyone connected to the manned space program understood how important it was that every launch worked.

Obama didn't and the launch of his signature bill crashed and burned.

How proud you-all PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRATS must be of your PRESIDENT OBAMA?

BHO doesn't care how much pain or anger is generated. He is only concerned about his ideology and crushing America into a European state run member of the United Nations. He is also attempting to stay "above" anything that goes wrong period. Since we seem to have a Democrat party in charge of the senate, we are held hostage with only a limited Republican party to point out what is going on. For a little education, you should watch the congressional hearings on C-SPAN and see the comments by your loony Democrats on critical issues.

FRANK, I'll keep it short and simple so you can understand it.

The ACA was a conservative idea.

It was passed into law by both the Senate and the House and signed into law by the President.

It has been found constitutional by the Supreme Court.

It is the law.

Reality is hard for you to understand but when you post your rambling rants try to include a few facts to support your argument. Your impressive use of descriptive words like Communist, subversive, parameters, pedantic all sound great but without any relevant facts they fall flat. Keep trying and you might eventually be able to debate an issue.

Harry Truman was once quoted as saying, "I never gave anybody hell ... I just told the truth, and they thought it was hell."

Good night Frank.

What's more important, truth or ego?
We liberal progressives have been trying to show how deep the rabbit hole of corporatism goes. But, I see that the extremist amongst us would prefer Fox and the right-wing media's blue pill. It's tough to have part of your belief system destroyed, the ego does not like being wrong. The lesser person can't admit they were fooled and are vulnerable to continue with their cognitive illusions of reality, and may even be willing to accept bigger and more dangerous lies.

Note: the Matrix reversed the pill colors in the movie from earlier presentation of the choice in Total Recall , but Mars Attacks is how I see the Tea Party insurrection. "They blew up Congress! Hahaha!").

The Tea Party is well on the way to death by comedy and satire. RIP

I am assuming that the over limits allowed for Hellish Harry will apply to conservative voices as well. When such an individual can spew such ignorance there must be a motive other than honest conversation. Subversion of America comes to mind, and I am assuming this news paper is not openly wishing to align themselves with such motive.

Mr HELLISH HARRY-- it seems history has caught up to you while displaying an incomplete knowledge of history as well as the subjects of your ire. It is likely original thought is outside of your parameters, but, let me encourage you that yes, Harry, it does exist. Quote whomever you wish. Bit do not, sir, tie my thoughts into collaboration with any other source. You tread on the ground of ignorance yet you are such as you are, unknowing of relevance. Should, you wish to attribute a meaningful source to my thoughts, reach deeper if you can, and see the Constitution as my motivation. What, sir, may I ask is yours? If not our founding documents then what?

Frank Aimes says:

"When socialism is foisted on capitalism they repell each other and act as the natural enemies they are. This was not bipartisan legislation. This is social engineering."

Frank, this straight from the ultimate authority for you - FOX NEWS

"The mandate, requiring every American to purchase health insurance, appeared in a 1989 published proposal by Stuart M. Butler of the conservative HERITAGE FOUNDATION called "Assuring Affordable Health Care for All Americans," which included a provision to "mandate all households to obtain adequate insurance."

"The Heritage Foundation "substantially revised" its proposal four years later, according to a 1994 analysis by the Congressional Budget Office. But the idea of an individual health insurance mandate later appeared in two bills introduced by Republican lawmakers in 1993, according to the non-partisan research group ProCon.org. Among the supporters of the bills were senators Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, who today oppose the mandate under current law."

"In 2006, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, who was then governor of Massachusetts, signed off on a law requiring individuals of the state to purchase health insurance. In a 2006 video, Mitt Romney says he is “very pleased” with the mandate."

Very funny Frank, This confirms you conservatives are really secretly a bunch of Communists that invented this maniacal leftist philosophy, so Obama must be your secret agent, right?

Obama was never really a part of this healthcare, he only wanted his name in lights. Good luck, sometimes if one has enough rope, they'll hang themself.

William, I will just point out that ten years after President Kennedy proclaimed that America would land a man on the moon, NASA, which was funded with $ billions per year, (and after a few deadly failures), did put a man on the moon.

Yours is an unfair comparison.

Getbto the point. If you do not want the ACA, then what better idea do you have?

When socialism is foisted on capitalism they repell each other and act as the natural enemies they are. This was not bipartisan legislation. This is social engineering. In this form it will fail. No amount of poising and pontificating by the empty suit in charge will change the fact that this legislation was passed before anyone even knew what was in it. THIS IN ITSELF is a failure in representation of, by and for the people. This was of, by and for a maniacal leftist philosophy and so it didn't matter to them what was in it, they just followed blindly as socialistic minions to the tune of their party masters' voices as they passed this law in dark of night on a Holliday weekend. Is this the America you believe in?

Even if the website had worked perfectly from the get go, Obamacare still requires people to buy something they don't need and don't want. Where is "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" in that?

And Obama could not find a single US company to build this web site so he had to use a foreign company? That borders on treason.

Just like everything else this and previous administrations have done progressively which must be challenged and repaired to return to basic Constitutional and Bill of Rights functioning!
