Letter: McCain deserves respect for service

This a response to Bob Humphrey's letter dated Sept. 16.

I disagree with Senator McCain's stance on a Syria attack. I was very unhappy with his response to constituents with whom he disagreed. I also disagree with the senator's stance on immigration reform.

That said, I am appalled by Humphrey's childish attack on Senator McCain's military service and the Senator's motives supporting military action against Syria. As a veteran who was spit upon by radicals when I returned from duty during the Vietnam war, I take offense to those who assign ridiculous motives to those who serve their country.

Senator McCain deserves better.

@Old Sarge- The "other" federally run health care system- don't you mean Medicare? It's not efficient for taxpayers due to sweetheart deals and no-bid pharmaceutical contracts, but it is a great deal for patients.

Your Comment is truly profound foolishness. I suppose in your world the supporters of the Unaffordable Care Act ARE familiar with the provisions of Obamacare, which is why they support it? The hacks that passed it did not even read it nor do they know what is in it ("We have to pass the law to find out what's in it"! This statement alone supports committing Pelosi to an institution for the mentally challenged.) Finally, there are certain follies, like the Unaffordable Care Act, which a country as large, complex, and indebted as ours cannot afford to try just to see if it can possibly be tolerated. And then there's the anti-liberty aspect of being required to purchase insurance whether you want to or not. And before you or some other dunderhead replies that the Supreme Court said it was constitutional, recall that the Supreme Court also ruled that blacks were only 3/5 of a person and separate but equal was constitutional. Try developing some critical thinking skills before the clowns inside the beltway drive us right over the cliff.

@Do You Know The Facts. Ah, no, haven't had the pleasure of reading through 10,000 pages of loopholes designed to make political friends rich. I'm more familiar with the "other" Federally run healthcare system...the VA. The broken, employee treasure trove, ineffective, belligerent, abusive, non-responsive, derelict that should have been done away with decades ago. So, I already know what Obamacare is going to be like.

@ Tired of business as usual...

Ten to one says your opposition is politically motivated, because not one in ten complainers knows diddly about the provisions of Obamacare.

You've never read it you're just echoing the mob.

Try a little literacy, give it a fair trial, then oppose it or support it on its MERITS.

I completely respect McCain' military service, I no longer respect him as a senator. I would not vote for him again and I hope he retires and takes his friends (reid, pelosi, boxer, clinton, etc.) into a quiet retirement.

Please educate the rest of us on exactly what makes McCain worthy of the office he holds? I am an astute student of politics, having studied our government and the Constitution for 40+ years and I am unable to see why he was elected and has been re-elected other than because people feel it would be disrespectful to vote for a candidate who had a heroic military career. It would be like all those useful idiots who voted for Obama out of fear that not voting for him would be racist.

And today's installment of liberal gibberish is brought to us by none other than "Attentive Listener". Gee, so attentive, but never has anything of fact, substance or relevance to say.

"American Taliban"? Yeah, that's the kind of mindless talking-point we'd expect from a drone.

Dear Senator:

Thank you for your military service to our country. You can further this service by retiring from the senate now. You are just too out of touch with your constituents on too many issues ranging from immigration, Syria and gun control.

I voted for McCain in his first election to the House. His commercial was of him and Cindy living in a tract house her cooking for the family with children all over the place. As soon as he made it to the Senate his address changed to Paradise Valley. No more requirement to live in a poorer district for easy election victories. I've not voted for him since. I can't vote for a Democrat so have had to leave out voting for Senate.

McCain may deserve respect for his military service, but he is no longer in the military. He is a public servant and deserves severe criticism for his incredibly poor performance as a Senator.

Mr. Wonderful, I don't like McCain either. But what's up with the "Adolph" thing? His middle mane is "Sidney," like his father and grandfather, who were both Admirals in the Navy during WW II.

And McAmnisty and Nam: I knew an Army Ranger Vietnam vet who swore they had orders to shoot McCain on sight. Lots of rumors and stories about his time as a POW.

I'd love to know the truth of it...

Look Daniel, if the conversation is strictly about one's military service, then so be it. But if that someone spends the ensuing decades in civilian life as a shameless self-promoter...pulling out the "veteran card" to total excess, then they make a mockery of themselves long before any of the rest of us can.

Perhaps you should talk to John McCain about being so disrespectful to HIMSELF.

Mr. Saboski, you are certainly a gentleman with integrity and under normal circumstances, I would agree with you. But John Adolph McCain does NOT deserve the benefit of your pardon. He gave up that right to respect when he sold out his country, his dying ex-wife, and his own self respect. This man is pure garbage and let your child die in an illegal war just to make a buck from military contractors. He would refer to your child as...Collateral damage.

Brown nosing John Adolph McCain now at this point in time is meaningless. Since serving his country as a pilot, he has done nothing to deserve any praise since being elected to office. John Adolph McCain has violated his oath of office so many times, he should have been arrested and charged with corruption a very long time ago. Don't take my word for it...just follow the money.

McCain has never done anything but nurse on the goverment udder. He is a coward and traitor to america. He served are you kidding? He served himself,ok he got captured and spilled his guts and that makes him a hero? He refused to leave the prison camp due to fear of being tried for treason. He dumped his sick wife to marry a bilionaire. His record speaks for itself, but the sheeple vote for who money tells them to. Even scum like McCain!!

Well Daniel,

My disgust with Senator McCain doesn't stem from his Military service. All of us that served in combat in Viet nam knew the risks of capture and far worse.

McCain's after action report is what angers me. John McCain chose to cheat on and leave his faithful wife to marry his beer heiress mistress. No so private business. He chose to get in bed with Charles Keating and be intimately involved with the LIncoln Thrift scandle (the largest bank failure in US history, at the time) and associated with Kemper Marley and the Don Bowles bombing / murder. Mr. McCain chose to Sell his Story for Power and Profit in the US Congress and the Senate.

Once there he's proven to be a vile piece of work in his "professed" respect and support of Veterans, all the while Voting AGAINST Veterans Benefits, Funding for health services, even education and rehabilitation programs 80% of the time, 80% NO votes (see congressional records) for decades.

Besides being a chameleon politician for personal enrichment his self proclaimed prowess as Military Strategist and Tactician makes me sick. He and Senator Lindsey Graham NC (JAG military lawyer) are a National embarrassment. Every single issue since Reagan and (Exceeds 200-word limit)

"Songbird" McLain has sold his soul a number of times.

I can't imagine anyone taking him seriously. He is up there with Joe Arpaio and Jamet Incompetano in making Arizona the laughing stock of America.

I am a veteran myself and have personally heard Sen. McCain make promises back in 2010 to us veterans that several things would change if we re-elected him. Mostly that the borders would be secure and veterans would be taken better care of. Instead, he seems to be wanting war to be rampant, no security to our borders, amnesty to anyone and no longer listens to his constituents.
