Letter: Unmixing metaphors reveals lack of logic

In his letter of Nov. 13, Jim Lamerson speaks of government waste on "non-essentials" without saying which programs he considers inessential. Would they happen to be Medicare, Social Security and education? I think I understand why he is reluctant to say.

It is because not many would agree that these programs are either inessential or "socialistic." And as for the military, our most socialistic institution, it is too essential to be expendable.

I also can guess why he doesn't come right out and call President Obama a traitor, although that would seem to be his implication. I guess it's because he's unable to find a scrap of evidence that would support such a bizarre claim. Everyone but Mr. Lamerson knows that Obama is neither a Muslim nor a socialist but a centrist Democrat. And as for Obama's having supposedly "sucked up" to terrorists, that is a strange way to describe the killing of Osama bin Ladin.

I can also make a stab at what Mr. Lamerson means by socialism. In his nightmare, he sees a horde of socialist kindergarten teachers armed with Iranian rocket launchers taking over our government. Scary!

In my opinion, Mr. Lamerson's letter is the raving of a sore loser in the recent election. His logic is unclear owing to the many mixed metaphors and undefined terms he uses, so that it is difficult to be quite sure what he is saying.

Here we go again with another artlcle about how the "Republicans need to get over it" on the re-election of Obama. Seems to me, they need to "get over it" and move on. Obama never got "over it" in 2008 and blamed Bush for his shortcomings. Okay for him, it's okay for the Repubicans too. Defensive comments must mean liberals feel insecure about something, maybe the future?

So, Corey pops up with the et tu fallacy. Mere assertion.

MSNBC would be the closer example. However, while political cometary with a liberal bias, they don't lie and don't make assertions that are not supported in fact. And, they are very quick to make corrections. Rachel has a technique were she characterizes her guest position and then ask if it was correct or anything she missed. Now compare that to Red Eye or Fox and Friends and the rest of the line up. Nothing to learn, Obama bad. Do you understand the techniques of character assassination? It's called Hannity. It was Rove's base of operation during the election, a Republican propaganda and false propaganda organ. Get a clue, you've been lied to.

Roger, don't ever expect the right wingers here to ever make any sense. Their regurgitated Faux News blather didn't make any sense the first time when they heard it from O'Reilly, Hannity and Limbaugh either!

You said: "I ask why the libbies are so uptight?" Uptight?? I'm enjoying watching you guys flail about in your perpetual anger, gloom and doom!

cnn, nbc, etc. is the propaganda wing of the democratic party. Brainwashing is not hard when you have willing or unwitting subjects. A mix of hate and fear and misinformation is all it takes.

Roger: A "centrist"? You're even less "logical" than Lamerson. I would have not believed that was possible until now.

The letter writer labels President Obama a centrist. He is left of center, but this description is prettymuch true. Ironically, it is the obstructionists in the Republican party that have driven him farther left.

In order to pass legislation you need votes in the House and Senate. Since the Republicans became the party of "NO", the President has had to go to the leftwing extremists for those votes. And along with those votes comes influence and input into the legislation. Hopefully the Republican party now understands this. With cooperation from them instead of obstruction, legislation would be a lot more centered. Obama wouldn't need the extreme left wingers if the Republicans would come to the table with sincerity.

There are enough moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats in both Houses to restore sanity in the legislative branch. Do they have the courage?

So, how does one go about disabusing folks of the propaganda they believe and wanted to believe?

Why they wanted to believe the referenced lies is an interesting question. Some of it was just partisan name calling and some played along with the team knowing it was fiction.

Propaganda goes best with racism seems to be an important facet to inflaming the emotions.

More important to our future, we need to hold responsible those who funded these deceptions, rather than pointing to the functionaries and personalities who are the media faces.

Let the metaphoric sun shine on those whose selfish interest paid for years of false propaganda to divide us. Let's see who is behind the common conspiracy funding the corruption our democratic process and make their names infamous.
