Letter: Arm border agents for their protection

Recently various TV channels aired short segments dealing with the murder of border patrol agent Brian Terry. While on patrol, agents encountered a "rip crew" that steals from other illegals crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. I learned that the agents attempted to subdue this crew by shooting bean bags at them while the illegals shot back with weapons using live ammunition.

The head of our Department of Homeland Security apparently has never heard the adage, "Never bring a knife to a gunfight." This ridiculous government policy, in conjunction with the absurd "Fast and Furious" program, resulted in the needless death of one of our agents who was attempting to enforce our laws. A very sad situation.

"We need armed federal agents on the border and a complete fence to keep out drugs, terrorists and illegals from all countries."

Armed Federal agents? Nonsense, alligator wranglers can do the job and at a cheaper price too!

Another Fox News Watcher with world ending gloom and doom beliefs.
The "complete fence" would cost us all millions of dollars to build and maintain. Go look at the donation page (https://www.buildtheborderfence.com/azborder/index.xhtml) and see how many Americans really want to spend their monies on building an archaic fence across Arizona. For every foot of fence built.... the Mexican cartel will build ladders and tunnels or use their Lear jets to cross it. The Great Wall in China didn't stop the barbarians either.

The drugs are sold by Mexican cartels because of the 22 million Americans who want and demand them. Legalize drugs and stop the real immigration problem, violent Mexican cartel gangs. Mexican cartel Leaders depending on their product, receive a salary of 1.5 billion to 5.0 billion a year. The illegal Mexican drug sales reaps billions for the Mexican cartels every year. The camels nose is way underneath the tent on this issue.

And let's see if Mr. Steele and Fox News can point to a United States terrorist act that's been linked to an illegal Mexican border crossing.

The border crises is hyped and manufactured by Fox News. It's one of their trumped up "outrage" stories easily sold to their educationally challenged audience. Why don't you quit whining and complaining Republican warhawk. Show us some of that Fox News Outrage. Like a good Fox News vigilante, why don't you help by grabbing your Pitchforks, Beer and Torches and storm our southern border with your absorbed Fox News ire or... dutifully go stand and wait in a long hot line at Chic-Fil-A because some outraged Christian zealot at Fox News told you to. The Republican lemming seems to be very easily led by this Republican Propaganda cable channel.

I suggest digging a moat filled with alligators. We can use the captured 'illegal alien' to construct the border ditch and then employ alligator wranglers to contain those illegal alien's to their side of the moat. Problem solved.

"Build the Dang Border Moat" because....

Building the "complete fence" is a Republican/Fox News/Steele "complete waste" of our tax monies.

When as I stated I lived 9 miles from the border I could get up early and find illegals hiding on my property almost every day. They would change clothes from their trips over the mountains and the flat lands and try to blend in with American style clothing.
And my wife was born down in Tombstone many years ago and this is not a new problem at all. That is other than the numbers of them and the drugs of course that we have now.
I was stationed at Fort Huachuca in the 60s which is on the border along with many other federal properties down there and I don't remember illegals in the numbers that we get today.
Last time I checked Cochise County was one of the highest crossing points in the country.
And the Forest Service would find drug stashes that had been left for pickup frequently while fighting fires and doing maintenance.
Other than posting the border with notices that anyone crossing the border will be shot on sight I don't think this is going to end in my lifetime.
And I would love to see any politician regardless of party make that decision. It would be about his last decision.

And Marine Gunnery Sergeant, in the 1966-72 era we were not allowed to have rounds in our weapons stateside or in Europe either.
At Fort Lewis, there were 66 guard posts when stationed there, only 8 had rounds at all!
So it was pretty easy on the open post for someone to drive into the base and point a cheap pistol at the guard who had no rounds anyway and take his M16! And it happened for quite a while too during '71-2.

@ Marine Gunny. You can read, right? Read it again then. As far as I'm concerned, the cops should have howitzers and bazookas. Get it?

Let me guess: You all are the same people who come down on the local police for being too quick to use force and tasers to subdue their suspects or deadly force to defend themselves against deadly force.

Our DOJ & Homeland Security is a joke and another example of waste of taxpayer's money. They are obviously NOT doing the job they were meant to do. What is their point? Our president has never even visited our borders, not once. Why? Holder seems to think that "opening the flood gates" is the only solution to his administration getting re-elected. These departments are not working and need to go!

@ James Madison

In 1983 two hundred forty-one (241) American servicemen were killed when the barracks they were housed in was destroyed by a suicide bomber. The truck the bomber was driving was able to achieve this objective because the sentries were ordered to keep their weapons at condition four (no magazine inserted and no rounds in the chamber). All because "their bosses [were] cowed by the political correctness of the times"

Based on your logic Mr. Madison, by now our law enforcement should be disarmed because of "political correctness". Your type of reasoning defies logic.

PLEASE--put on your thinking caps,ok!
Go back to when the President Barrack Obama came to ARIZONA for a meeting with then GOVERNOR Janet Narpaulino(sp)?
Then the governor got the job as: Director of Homeland Security.
The President is directly connected to the arizona border shooting of this U.S. BORDER AGENT.
Goes to show WE THE PEOPLE that the cover-up goes all the way to the TOP!

Lets face it, we currently don't have a department of justice or a "real" homeland security department. Bean bags are for kids birthday parties not defending our country. Mexico suing us? Mexico has been run by grifters forever! We need armed federal agents on the border and a complete fence to keep out drugs, terrorists and illegals from all countries. It's time we had complete respect for our constitution from all persons who swear allegiance to it.

This type of inane practice is what you get when you have bleeding heart liberals running a law enforcement arm of government. It's rampant all over the country now. God help our law enforcement folks. Their bosses are cowed by the political correctness of the times.

I am sure they used non lethal actions trying to stop the action as they were trained.
They are quite well armed but are trained not to shoot unless they have too. I have known several agents when I lived 9 miles from the border for a number of years and I am familiar with their training too.
The US wouldn't want a lawsuit from the Mexican side of the border would they?
