Letter: ID requirements will deter voters

EDITOR:

The fundamental right to vote in America is the envy of many other countries. Democracy is the freedom to vote for our country's leaders. In 2012, 30 states are considering laws requiring voter IDs, harsh registration laws and reducing early voting on weekends (for working parents with children).

Many elderly people have no birth certificates and acquiring validated documents can be costly. Students not licensed to drive, disabled persons, poor people and African-Americans - a possible 20 million citizens will be disenfranchised. Imagine the frustration of being ineligible to vote after a lifetime of voting.

The League of Women Voters has stopped registration efforts in Florida because of harsh voter registration laws. Court cases have stopped unjust voting laws in Virginia and Mississippi, and another is pending in Wisconsin. Lobbying prevented unjust voting laws in Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire and North Carolina.

Elections should not be won by the number of votes blocked.

Howard Roark, what you propose was specifically forbidden by the Constitution since the founding of this nation. Can you explain to me why you are right and the founders were wrong?

quote: "Many elderly people have no birth certificates."

If you're age predates birth certificates, you probably can't understand what you're voting on. I'm gonna guess that the reason they have no birth certificates, is THEY ARE NOT AMERICAN CITIZENS!

Only tax payers should be allowed to vote.

The beginning of the end is when some people figured out they could vote themselves more of other peoples money.

J. Madison- Can you tell me how one goes about getting a photo ID for free? I have never done it.

@Yukon Jack - requiring voter I.D. is not a "fee process to vote". It is simply a way to ensure that you are legally entitled to vote. Most Democrats want anybody they can sneak into the country, convicted felons, and enemies foreign nd domestic to vote, but it just doesn't work that way. Nice try, though, distorting the Constitution.

You are correct. Representation in the House of Representatives IS given to illegal aliens through a flawed census. The 2010 Census was a huge failure. The lowest response rates EVER.
The Federal government was forced to rely on "Statistical Computer Models". The Count was a failure.
The US has doomed itself. It is not a legitimate entity. It has defrauded its own citizens at the expense of illegal noncitzens. The names of all those who participated in this illegal federal act are duly recorded. The fall out will be huge.

Challenge,

Surely you jest. You cannot believe everything you read is true and these responses are all factually based with no bias. The only person you should rely on for the facts, is yourself. If a link is not provided, then do your on research, it is easy enough. Use your search engine and key words. Even valid news sources should not be trusted, unless verified by other sources.

And surely you do not think anyone who post in the Courier will influence anyone's opinion. Honky post to get under conservative skins, and I believe he is sometimes successful. The regular commentators are folks with nothing else to do to pass the time of day. Rambling on thinking they are making a difference.

Both of you Democrats OR Republicans are to blame.
We the majority hate you. You do nothing but destroy our personal freedoms and liberties. You routinely violate the US Constitution!

Your failed system counts illegal NON CITIZENS for representation in the HOuse of Representatives!
You are no longer wanted or needed!
We have demonstrated this fact by having the lowest voter turnouts in the developed world. We want you to leave! Leave us alone!

Here is my challenge: Prove to me and others who you are. You can not do this unless at a certain point we accept your word as truth.
Ultimately, your identity is YOUR WORD.

Show us your driver's license. (A photo ID) After passing the test of course, you were asked to present your bith certificate for identity. You undoubtedly produced one, but how do we know it's yours? How do you prove you are the child listed on the form? How would you have proved who you are if the clerk simply said, "I don't believe you. This is someone else's birth certificate."?

Waiting for a reply. (And I'm sure there will be a winter frost in a place we all don't want to go before I get one!)

Some of our letter witers here just do not get it IT DOES NOT MATTER WHETHER OR NOT YOU CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR A GOVERNMENT ID CARD, IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL TO REQUIRE ANY SORT OF A FEE PROCESS TO VOTE. It is as simple as that. It would be a poll tax, something that was used in our past as an obstruction for some to vote. THE SUPREME COURT HAS RULED ON THIS. Changing the words to require a document costing the voter money is the same thing.

We not only need voter ID - we also need an IQ test, judging from some of the comments here - especially those who address others as "tea pots."

Ms. Wilbanks is expressing foolishness and disregard for the rights of those eligible to vote. The opportunity to vote for our government representatives and for those public policies put to a popular vote is a sacred right and needs to be protected and defended. To the extent legitimate votes are stolen or negated by illegal votes cast, the rights of the people are infringed upon. She is in error to think it's good stewardship to look the other way and provide the opportunity for dishonorable people to misuse and corrupt the "honor system".

Hundred of Democrats "arrested & convicted of voter fraud?" Really? Where did you get your information?

The issue on the table is not voter fraud (nonexistent) but voter REGISTRATION fraud.

In your venom you conveniently forgot the 2000 election in which the Supreme Court stopped the recount (well, actually let the stoppage remain) & thus awarded the Presidency to, guess what... a Republican.

Love it when people post amazing "facts" in all caps such as "VOTER FRAUD IN THE UISA IN THE PAST FEW YEARS THE COUNT WAS ..00001 %" yet no link to back up the info. Makes you wonder where they pull this "fact" out of...

Here are some instances of voter fraud, which doesn't exist. Took me 3 seconds to find this much...

Wow, Lyle you have a lot of hate in you. Oh, you are wrong about Democrats and voter fraud. I know you never heard of Republican voter fraud, believe the Dems are all evil, but since you get your news from Fox and Limbaugh what can I say. You are a Tea Pot, and with your beliefs you should be a Tea Pot. Join with Andy and Tom, start a Prescott chapter of the Klan, it's nice to have friends that agree with you, and the more at the cross-burning the merrier.

The scariest thing of all is that evidently both Honky and the letter writer can both vote. Have we ever seen a more stupid letter? Libs are getting desperate besides what the MSM would have us believe.

Response to: Honky Brujo.

Saying Republicans are the only ones convicted of voter fraud is a straight up lie. Quite the contrary is almost true.

Hundreds of Democrats have been arrested and convicted of voter fraud since just 2006.!!

Republicans committing voter fraud is rare, for Democrats it is almost policy.

Democrats are well known for voting after they die, electing felons, stuffing ballot boxes, allowing illegals to have a ballot, and pretending it was all a mistake if caught...right after blaming Republicans for catching them, and throwing in racism just for good measure.

From false affidavits courtesy of ACORN, to Al Franken finding new ballots in desk drawers and in trunks of cars, to black panthers standing outside voting places, to straight up ballot stuffing you need look no further than the Democrat Party and its operatives to conclude when it comes to dead people voting, illegals with an absentee ballot, or triple voting by the same person the place to be is in the Democrat Party.

Jail is where such people belong.

There is no other reason to oppose showing valid ID to vote EXCEPT a desire for institutionalized voter fraud.

NEW DEMOCRAT MOTTO: I am dead. I used to be Republican. Now I vote Democrat by absentee. I vote early and often.

(PS. I am a Democrat for one simple reason: I'm voting Democrat because I believe the primary responsibility of our Armed Forces should not be to defend America in time of war, but to rescue fat, stupid people from the roofs of houses during hurricanes, especially if they are from another country or are on welfare.)

So the rigorous voter requirements would mean we'd have fewer gullible suckers electing our future incompetent hacks and gansters into positions of power? Gee, we could wind up with corrupt and crappy government. That would be such a bummer -- and so very different.

I have proof that voting simply doesn't work: I tried it a bunch of times and the bad guys always won and the referendums always came out all wrong. All along, though, I secretly knew the contestants I preferred were also crooks. People with remnant traces of integrity don't get into politics. (Except for Pam Pearsall. She's "the exception that proves the rule", whatever that means. It was something my elementary school teachers always used to say.)

Let's all cry that the poor people that can't afford a state issued ID card. What's that cost...about $10 in AZ. You need an ID to cash a check. Are you telling me poor people get no checks whatsoever throughout their entire life?

The only reason Libs don't want this passed is because is will take away an AMERICAN right that is currently bestowed upon NON-AMERICANS. Give me a break. If the Dems lose the vote of illegals, they will lose the election. This is simply because everytime election comes up, Dems push the "free-card" for illegals. It never gets passes...yet another one of Obama's broken promises...along with more rights for gays (hasn't happened), a better balanced budget as opposed to Bush (Obama has spent the same money in 4 years as Bush did in 8) free health care (how's that working for you?), end taxes on seniors making less than $50k a year, repeal tax cuts for those making more than $50k a year, allow imported prescription drugs, etc., etc.

Stop voting for broken promises and "hope". Obama isn't going to give you anything. He isn't going to make your house payment. Get real.

Well, once again, I'm forced to see one of our citizens as either a.) a babbling ignoramous or b.) a big fat liar. I'll not presume which one she is, but one or the other for sure.

Any citizen with the legal right to vote can easily...very, very easily gain the proper authorization to do so. It's either babbling ignorance or blatant lying to suggest otherwise.

Hey Tea Pots, all you have to do is google voter fraud, and you will see that in the last 20 years the only voter fraud has been done by Republicans. You all can sit here and agree with each other and Fox Noise, but the rest of the Country knows what crap you are trying to pull. It is all about voter suppression.

The US Census counts illegal non citizens for representation in the House. There are districts represented in the House of Representatives that have few legal citizens. If they are counted in apportioning representation why SHOULDN'T they be allowed to vote?
