Letter: Bumper sticker makes driver a target of wrath

This letter is in support of Debra Kaukol. I know how you feel. When I went to the Democratic headquarters in town to get an Obama bumper sticker, I asked one woman who helped me if I were inviting trouble if I put this on my truck. She said, "Don't worry, honey, there are more of us than you think." Since before the election, I was berated in the Walgreens parking lot by a man who cussed at me and couldn't believe that I would vote for "that S.O.B." Then, I almost had the passenger side of my truck taken off by a man passing and cutting in front of me so I could see his back window painted with "Kill Obama, save our country." I also got yelled at while at the car wash by a man who came up to the driver's window to say, "You won - are you happy?" I took the opportunity to tell him I was. I was at a stoplight, making a left-hand turn, when a man pulled next to me and screamed at the top of his lungs "Idiot."

Nevertheless, remember, "There are more of us than you think."

Monica White, R.N.

@A Thinker-

And they will go on to form a society with no government, until they are obliterated by either themselves or the elements, yes? And then they'll say "Omigosh, it was US! All the things we blamed on government, all the things we blamed on other people, it was us all along!"

One day..

One day people will realize that they have more in common than they ever thought. When both wings of the same party have driven us into world war, crushing debt, desperation, poverty, bankruptcy, and cages there will be a stunning moment of realization that changes the world forever.

'It was... government...government' they'll say with astonished faces.

You're a wise woman Marianne for presenting your thoughts while being nondiscriminatory. If more could or would practice the same these senseless acts of outburst would be hallucinatory at best.
YO MONICA Few can be open about their religious beliefs and political beliefs and able to endure the backlash. If you're not one of those than best to keep your beliefs private.
Looking at someone the 'wrong-way' could get you shot in 2013.
The art of communication is a lost art.
Few can express their personal article of faith without causing debauchery and if they do they are wise enough to defuse the situation afterwards. Something I have learned over the years by reading Marianne's comments and letters. Thanks, Sallysally483@yahoo.nl

Arizona makes up more Republican and Independent voters than Democrats, so, yay, it will remain a RED state for a long time.

Article comment by: Obama Supporter Equals Naive Individual

There will be more families than thought who will lose their work related healthcare. Seems it is more cost effective to just pay the penalty than provide the insurance.

Hope all you folks who voted to tax the wealthy, enjoy your new found lose of benefits.

This does not take into account the trend of hiring and reverting employees to part time to avoid paying medical benefits or the find for not providing.

You ... that voted for Obama and free handouts do not understand, someone has to pay and someone has to provide jobs. If your skill level does not support a salary that provides benefits, you could find yourself in the donut hole where the government does not provide you healthcare and the cost is prohibited.

They also underestimated the cost of a family of four to by insurance by 25%.

Good luck, mandating required coverages had the affect of raising premiums, not lowering them.

There is no free lunch, educate yourself and acquire marketable skills. A basket weaving degree will not cut it.

Article comment by: Bumper Stickers can be hazardous to your health

@ Ms. Vangalio. I love how you think and I concur wholeheartedly! You said "we live in a highly charged society....." and I agree. I think bumper stickers can be a hazard in that they can tick people off because it doesn't take much for drivers to loose control of their anger and act out against anyone who gets in their way or disagrees with their thinking. I think we live in a world where many drivers are insecure and feel vulnerable and easily threatened so react to almost anyone who disagrees with them. I'm studying psych at Yavapai College and I just finished a study about people who have boundary issues and your post fell right into place in the way that car owners think they should advertise their convictions to, as you put it Marianne, "strangers". I believe how a person votes should be between their god and themselves solely. That is why voting booths have "high sides and or curtains" right?
I think there are alot of unhappy people in our world who are struggling and I think we should be sensitive to everyone by being kind and not flaunting our political agenda's in their faces. Politics is a very sensitive issue because our leaders are in control of our financial welfare and welfare in other aspects of living like our health care coverage. People have lost an enormous amount because of the way our political leaders have voted or made their decisions or requests and going public with our political views, by the use of bumper stickers, can be a danger. It can cause road rage and all kinds of bad things. I'm all for freedom of expression but I think we can be very selfish when it comes to exercising those freedoms. If we are made aware, because of letters to the editor such as this one, that certain issues can incite then I think we should have the decency to withhold our freedom for the sake of others. That to me is what I would call brotherly love in this great country I live in .Putting others first. Again, thank you Marianne for insights and for being a sensitive and caring person. Yeah, my Obama/Biden sticker has gotten me yelled and flipped off a few times.
The first time a guy in an old pickup started following me around while flipping me off continually. I know my driving wasn't the issue because I had just driven by him while he waited at a right turn and then he made his turn and fell in behind me. As I kept driving I wondered if he was behind me simply because he was headed in the same direction, but I made a few turns that really didn't make sense and he just stayed behind me (still giving me the finger). I'm guessing it was the bumper sticker, but maybe he doesn't like white vans. He finally gave it up.
Next, a "lady" started questioning me in a Walmart parking lot as I got in my car. She was wagging her finger at me and asking why I would ever vote for Obama and did I know how he was destroying our country, etc. I told her I didn't have to debate a total stranger in a parking lot, and she said that I did because I had the bumper sticker! I just rolled up my window as she kept at it. She was still making comments as I backed out and drove away.
Then after the election another "lady" made it a point to cut in front of me where Hwy 89 goes from two lanes down to one near the Phippen Museum. She was flipping me off and yelling something about "Obama something, blah, blah..." (What's up with the conservative women out there?)
Anyway, it's been fun and I still have my sticker. I plan to get a new one when it wears out.

your true colors are showing... but in the now famous words of the one that you so dearly love to hate... 'Please...Proceed'...

every fear mongering, race baiting, teabagging comment you make turns AZ that much more blue. you do not represent the true nature of our fine state... much the opposite in fact.

you can have your enclaves of of like minded folks..but they are shrinking with every passing day as the reality of time marches you into the minority... one generation at a time.

we thinks thou protests just a bit to much to be taken seriously and more folks are realizing that daily. your leaders are failing to adapt, your idols are plated in gold and your profits false.

you can move to glen beck-istan and ignore the outside world, you can prep to your hearts desire and hoard all the rations, gold and guns you like but they will not stop the march of progress or the hands on the clock of time.

these are simple facts that are just the result of the swinging pendulum of life... you can adapt and thrive or deny and shrivel... so again...'Please...Proceed... '

I just had to chuckle at the Schadenfreude of it all. You see, most of my life was spent as a conservative in the People's Republik of Kalifornia. I saw my beloved California go from red to blue and it made me sad to see the state start to circle the proverbial drain. (Ironically, Arizona was once a blue state turned red, but that is another matter altogether)
I moved from the PRK to The Free State of Arizona in April of 2012 to live as a free American. and I don't have to worry about my many (conservative) bumper stickers getting scratched or G-d forbid, having my tires punctured. I feel at home now amongst Americans practicing American values, Judeo-Christian values and not Leftist values.
Californians are fleeing the state by the thousands yearly and are not being replaced that means that there are that many more vacant rentals and real estate on the market. No monsoons, no dry, itchy skin, no rattlesnakes & scorpions and no obnoxious conservatives/Republicans to contend with. Great weather nearly year-round only spoiled by an occasional earthquake. A Socialist multi-cultural liberal paradise with a high-speed train coming sometime in the next few decades. One of those abandoned apartments/condos/houses could be yours, Monica and I hear that RNs can name their own salary, unless of course the union has a say in your earnings.

To Dick Marley: "Obama is taking this country in the wrong direction, you both need to learn the facts and get it right." The problem is that Monica and others like her that support President Obama happen to think his direction is just fine.

Personal responsibility is "cruel" and "not fair". Morality and conservative values are "out-dated" and "oppressive".

Those who worked hard and sacrificed to become wealthy are inherently evil.

They are fine giving up freedom and liberty for empty promises of "fairness".

History is the best teacher we have and, unfortunately, liberals refuse to learn from it. Now that ignorance and selfishness has taken hold of the majority of voters in this country, America is finished.

Now the age of moral and economic collapse has been ushered in and those in power will continue their quest for control over every aspect of the citizen's lives.

Everyone, please be sure that you are completely familiar with the term "useful idiots", as in Lenin's Useful Idiots. Google it if you're not. Nothing is more important than understanding what the "useful idiots" were in the past and how they also exist today, right here in America. They are the biggest problem for this country by far.

No outside threats, despite how dangerous they may be, come anywhere close to the threat posed by the "useful idiots" from within our own country. Our ememies around the world love to see our "useful idiots" in action. In turn, the "useful idiots" in our country adore the enemies of America.

Just know who/what the "useful idiots" are and what they represent. No American should be unaware of this issue.

Your obscene bumper sticker exists only to provoke others. There are a million other ways to show a difference of opinion, yet you choose one that you know will upset, inflame, and offend others.

I can not believe that this letter from this poor woman could illicit such aggressive angry bitter responses. She was stating what happened to her and a lot of people feel they have to bash her for it. This is exactly what is wrong with this country. People simply cannot agree to disagree. In the end, don't we all want the same thing?

@Big E- The question is do YOU run your mouth like you type in public? This isn't the first time you have made exactly this kind of comment, which carries the implicit threat that you would do your opponents harm were you physically present to do so. It's actually pretty unusual around here for people to threaten each other with offline consequences for online remarks, and other than from you, I think I have only seen someone threaten a fight one other time. I think this makes three times that I have seen you do it. From what I can see, you are the one "picking fights" with your computer. Is this how you act in person?
