Sundogs deal Hood for 2 players
The Daily Courier

Mired in a five-game losing streak, the Arizona Sundogs Thursday traded longtime defenseman Kyle Hood to the Missouri Mavericks in exchange for forward Brian Bicek and defenseman Matt McCready.

As part of the deal, the Mavericks will also receive future considerations from the Sundogs.

Bicek, a 27-year-old Downers Grove, Ill., native, joins Arizona after collecting 4 goals and 15 assists (19 points) in 21 games with the Mavericks this season.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound fifth-year pro had previously skated with the Evansville (Ind.) IceMen, formerly of the CHL, from 2010-12, where he recorded 121 points in 124 contests.

In 2009-10, Bicek played with the Muskegon (Mich.) Lumberjacks, a former International Hockey League (IHL) team, and earlier in 2008 with the CHL's now-defunct Rio Grande Valley (Texas) Killer Bees.

McCready, a 5-11, 180-pound defenseman, had a goal and 5 assists (6 points) in 20 games with the Mavericks this season.

The 25-year-old Kingsman, Ontario, Canada, native spent his college career with the University of Windsor in Canada, where he put up 67 points in 107 games prior to his departure after the 2011-12 season.

Last season with the Mavericks, McCready competed in the team's CHL playoff run, scoring 4 points in 11 post-season contests.

Prior to the trade, Hood was in the midst of his fifth season with the Sundogs, registering 3 goals and 5 assists in 17 games.

Arizona, which currently sits in eighth place in the 10-team CHL with a 9-11-4 record (22 points), begins a five-game road trip tonight at Missouri.

The Sundogs won't return to Tim's Toyota Center until Dec. 28, when they open a three-game series against the Bloomington (Ill.) Blaze.
