Fall 2014: Yavapai soccer on a mission to win title on their own turf
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Arizona - It's been nearly six years since the Yavapai College men's soccer team toted an NJCAA Division 1 national championship trophy back to Prescott.

Dating to 1990, the prideful program has won three of its record seven JUCO titles in Trenton, New Jersey (1990, 1992, 1997); another trio in Tyler, Texas (2002, 2003, 2007); and its most recent in Phoenix (2008).

Palmer's short stint perfect as Cardinals roll in preseason opener
GLENDALE, Arizona - A perfect start for Carson Palmer and, even if it's just preseason, an impressive opener for the Arizona Cardinals.

And just the opposite for the Houston Texans and new coach Bill O'Brien.

Palmer was 5 for 5 for 84 yards and a touchdown in his lone series and the Cardinals went on to rout the Texans 32-0 on Saturday night.

Breaking News: NASCAR's Stewart hits, kills driver on NY track
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - NASCAR driver Tony Stewart struck and killed a sprint car driver who was walking on a dirt track during a race in upstate New York on Saturday night.

Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said his department's investigation is not criminal and that Stewart was "fully cooperative."

The Arizona Sundogs added to their defense again, signing their third blueliner of the offseason, the team announced Tuesday.

The CHL semifinalists inked veteran Drew Fata, who becomes the eighth roster player for the 2014-15 Sundogs. The left-hander joins returners Michael Couch and Mike Trebish on the blue line.

77 years ago, the Pittsburgh Pirates' 'home' game in Prescott was a real show
The Pittsburgh Pirates visit Arizona Thursday to open a four-game series against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Good crowds are expected, especially with the competitive Pirates locked in a battle for first place in the NL Central.

But it's nothing quite like the old days when the Pirates came to Arizona. When they came through Prescott to play an intrasquad exhibition game during a spring jaunt out west in 1937, Prescott could party.

Yavapai soccer's original captain heading to the Hall
Rocco DeNardis took an unusual route to Yavapai College to play soccer on the school's inaugural team back in 1989. He still calls it "an accident."

At the time he was playing with an under-18 club in his hometown of Nepean, Ontario, Canada, in an area now part of Ottawa. A buddy of his was playing at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where an ambitious assistant coach named Mike Pantalione was leaving to start a new program in the high desert town of Prescott, Arizona.
