Les Stukenberg/The Daily Courier Kyle Chipchura powers past the Denver D during this past Wednesday’s win in Prescott Valley. His three assists Wednesday helped the Arizona forward to CHL Player of the Week honors.
The CHL on Monday named the Sundogs' forward as its Oakley Central Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 11.
The veteran forward on loan this season from the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes during that league's ongoing lockout helped the Sundogs to a perfect week with three straight wins over the Denver Cutthroats.
Chipchura, 26, a native of Westlock, Alberta, finished the week with two goals and six assists and was a +7 over his three games. He started the week with three assists in a 5-3 win over Denver on Wednesday, and then had one helper in Friday's win. He capped the week with two goals and two assists in Saturday night's victory.
Chipchura leads the Sundogs in scoring with 13 points (2 goals, 11 assists) and leads the entire CHL with a +11 plus/minus rating.
Chipchura is a veteran of 216 NHL games, and last season played 53 games with the Sundogs' parent club, the Coyotes, where he scored three goals with 13 assists. The left-hander originally was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round (18th overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
In recognition of his achievement, Chipchura will receive a special gift from Oakley.
