A year ago, the Arizona Sundogs couldn't win at home. Their 11 home wins were the fewest in the CHL then. They've reversed that this year, however, as the 'Dogs are a near-perfect 5-0-1 on their home ice.

The road is another issue.

Although they did pick up a point in their 2-1 shootout loss Friday night against the Denver Cutthroats in Colorado, the setback dropped the Sundogs to 1-4-2 away from home as the team finds itself mired in a season-high three-game losing streak.

The team's offense has gone cold.

After throttling the same Cutthroats in a three-game sweep last week in Prescott Valley - a series in which Arizona scored 16 goals - the Sundogs have managed just three goals in the first three games of their current four-game road swing.

Both teams went scoreless in the first two periods Friday night before 2,017 fans at the Denver Coliseum. The Cutthroats broke the drought when Brett Lutes beat Sundog goalie David Brown in the 10th minute of the third period.

Arizona answered with an equalizer three minutes before the end of regulation when Mario Larocque, 34-year-old defenseman out of Montreal, made good off an assist from Jason Morgan.

Neither team was able to score in overtime as both goalies controlled the tempo. In the shootout, the Sundogs misfired on their three attempts by the time Lutes ended matters with his clinching shootout goal.

Although the teams mixed it up in their previous meeting Wednesday night to the tune of a combined 42 penalty minutes for fighting in the third period of a 6-0 Denver win, tempers were quieter on Friday. There were no fighting skirmishes to speak of the whole night, and the clubs went a combined 0-for-7 on the power play.

Brown turned away 31 of 32 shots in his 65 minutes between the pipes.

After playing five games in nine days, the Sundogs won't face the Cutthroats again until a return trip to Denver Dec. 21.

Arizona wraps up its road swing Saturday night in Kansas against the Wichita Thunder. The 'Dogs return home to host the Allen Americans for a three-game series at Tim's starting next Wednesday night (6:05).

The Sundogs will look to avenge the two losses they suffered in Allen, Texas, to open the 2012-13 season last month.
