In a rematch of two high-powered offenses, Prescott crushed Verde Valley 22-2 in the Arizona District 10 championship game at Ziegler Field.

Tommy McCarty was not only the player of the year for our 2015 All-Yavapai County Baseball Team, McCarty was also one of the best players in the state. He earned first team All-Section, as well as section player of the year and first team All-State.

Competitive skeet shooting requires physical strength and an abundance of aptitudes - mental focus, timing, and accuracy among others - to fire a shotgun and shatter dish-shaped targets approximately 4-¼ inches in diameter zooming up to 60 miles per hour in different directions, heights, and distances - sometimes two at a time - as the shooter moves around eight stations aiming at 24 targets in a prescribed order.

Paige became only the second Badgers' track and field athlete since Ben Clark in 2003 to win three individual state titles, taking home the first-place medal in the 800 meters, 1600m and 3200m at the Division 2 meet May 6, 8 and 9 in Mesa.

Volleyball rivalry takes on cancer fight
Yavapai College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's volleyball teams combined their efforts in the "Crosstown Battle Against Breast Cancer" to raise $3,580.53. On Wednesday this money was donated to the Breast Cancer Center at Yavapai Regional Medical Center in Prescott Valley.

There are more golf courses in Prescott where players fling Frisbees than ones where they smash dimpled white balls.

Excuse me. That's discs. Skilled players actually use an assortment of them. Like clubs in a golf bag, there's a driver disc, a medium range disc, a putter disc.... Some carry as many as 15 in their bags.

Yavapai soccer to open 2015 season with 2 at home
Per usual, the Yavapai College soccer team is its own tough act to follow.

But follow they will when the 2015 season kicks off with a home doubleheader the weekend of Aug. 21 and 22 in Prescott Valley and Prescott, respectively. The program this week announced its official 2015 schedule.

The Chino Valley High School varsity baseball team has a new head coach. And a familiar face.

Mark Middleton takes over a Cougars program that won an AIA Class 3A state championship in 2010, and has appeared in three other state championship games since 1997.
