Bradshaw Mtn. wins 2 Friday

Three games, three wins in two days for the Bears at the Sun-Blast Invitational in Anthem.

After knocking off defending state champion Bourgade Catholic in their Thursday opener, the Bears added a couple more wins with a doubleheader sweep on Friday.

Bradshaw got a complete-game effort from pitcher Terra Stults and a game-winning hit from Kristen Jensen in the opener, a 1-0 win over Maricopa.

Stults went eight innings and walked just two, and then got help from her offense late.

With Dymond Balderrama on second base in the eighth inning, Stults bunted her over to third and was safe at first herself. Maricopa then walked Brittany Flannigan to load the bases, and then Jensen hit an infield single to score Balderrama from third with the winning run.

The offense came alive in the nightcap, as did Madison Rubio.

In an 8-6 win over Skyline, Rubio pitched six innings and scattered eight strikeouts, and also belted a solo home run. Chandler Schauwecker pitched the seventh inning for the save.

Nichole Paterno batted 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a solo home run. Tia Randa and Jensen each collected two hits.

The Bears play two more games Saturday against opponents to be determined to wrap up the tournament.
