Jason Deitch's rebound goal from the right circle early in the third period held up as the difference on Saturday night as the Allen Americans topped the Arizona Sundogs by a 2-1 final at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley.

Both goaltenders shined in the bout as Rejean Beauchemin earned the win, stopping 41 shots. Mike Spillane took the loss, stopping 29.

Deitch's game-winner came 7:37 into the third period. Jeff Martens and Joshua Hepditch recorded the assists.

With the win, the Americans (21-9-7) swept the weekend set out west and the two teams will meet again Tuesday in Allen. All four of the meetings this season between the Sundogs (12-19-7) and Americans have been decided by one goal. For Arizona, tonight's game was their 22nd one-goal decision of the season - second in the league to the Texas Brahmas (23). The Sundogs are 8-7-7 in those close finishes.

Both teams traded first period goals as Adam Smyth put the Sundogs up 1-0 before Mark Nebus tied the game in his first appearance for Allen. It was Smyth's sixth of the year.

Neither team scored on the power play as Arizona finished 0 for 6 and Allen went 0 for 3.

The Sundogs head out for a two-game road trip beginning on Tuesday when they visit the Americans for the third consecutive meeting between the two clubs. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m.

The Americans are the best team we faced all year.Their positional play showed a well coached team very structured. They have a good chance to win it all this season.

Just another 2 1/2 hours of torture for the fans.
Can't win if you don't score. Another wasted effort by Reid and Spillane this weekend. Very disheartening, I don't know how the players can deal with it. Maybe February's long road trip will be the answer since it obviously doesn't work here at home.
