Obituary: Dorothy Anna Gibbs
Dorothy Anna Gibbs
Dorothy Anna Gibbs

Dorothy Anna Gibbs is no longer with us - she passed away on June 17, 2013, in West Point, Va. at the age of 91. She was born in New York City in 1921 to Paul and Anna Gorges.

She worked for the Naval Department during World War II, married Wallace Gibbs in 1948, raised a loving family and was a faithful Catholic.

She is survived by her children, Paul, Dorothy, Wallace, Katherine, Joseph, Robert, Peter, Frank, Marie and Louise, who loved her very deeply and cherished her life, but know she is in the loving hands of our Lord Jesus Christ; Auntie Helen Gorges and her two sons, Harold and Robert; her lifelong friends and neighbors in Arizona, Maryland and Virginia; her 19 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren are all saddened and miss her as well. Her husband Wallace, her brother Harold and sister-in-law Willie and several relatives preceded her to heaven. She missed her beloved dog, Lucky, who was a dear companion and made her smile everyday.

While she lived in Arizona, she regularly attended St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley and had many friends at the CASA Senior Center. She loved the Town of Prescott Valley and enjoyed visiting Prescott. She treasured Lynx Lake, camping in Arizona and Colorado, the sound of the wind racing through Ponderosa Pines, the flowers blooming in the Spring, the smell of Summer rain in the air, the color of Aspens in the Fall, and the gently falling snow in Winter. She loved to crochet and had a beautiful, artistic handwriting that was a joy to read. She always had a positive, relaxed demeanor, was liked by everyone she met and laughter came easy to her. Dorothy was an avid reader and had a keen interest in native American Indian cultures. Life to Dorothy Anna Gibbs was beautiful, and as she had said on many occasions, she was blessed.
