Obituary: Cordelia E. Black

Cordelia E. Black was born Feb. 14, 1921, to Annie and Garland Jones in Shelby, Miss.

At age 3, she moved with her parents and sister to Chicago. She married A.L. Black in 1952, and after the birth of her son A.L. (Skip) Black Jr., moved to Prescott in 1955. She worked at the VA medical center in Prescott in dietetics as a food supervisor for 26 years and retired in 1983. She enjoyed her family, bingo and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.

She is survived by her son A.L Skip Black Jr.; daughter-in-law Mary Jane Black; grandchildren, Janae (Trey) Furr, Matt (Jenny) Black, Kelsi (Glen) Hicks; great grandchildren, Jaelyn Furr, 7, Jade Furr, 4, Jaren Furr, 1, Dnte Black, 7 months, Deegan Hicks, 2; niece Diane (Herb) Jackson and family; nephew Dean (Ann) Lillard and family; as well as many extended family and bingo friends.

There are no words to describe the amazing person who molded our lives and made each and everyone of us better people. Unless you had the chance of knowing this wonderful woman, you wouldn't be able to understand the amount of love, generosity and care that she instilled in all of us. She was the best mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend anyone could ask for.

May you rest in peace and know you will be in our hearts and thoughts forever.

Services will be at noon on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice.

I first met Cordelia in 1984, when I assisted her in caring for her Mom & Aunt! All three were beautiful ladies and one of my favorite stops! Cordelia always treated me like a friend, thanks for sharing your Mother & Grandmother ! She was so proud of her family! When I think of Cordelia , it always brings a smile to my heart! My prayers & thoughts are with you all! So glad I worked for CSS and the privilege of meeting Cordelia & her Family! Connie Berry

Skip and Family.
Just wanted to tell you how sorry we are to hear of your loss. Your mother was a very unique person and anyone who met her felt the love she had for so many.
She also was a woman of her own and if anyone has met her family they would see that that is something she has passed down for generations.
Wonderful family...true, loving and honest people.
It's been a blessing to know you.
We think of you and your family often and are praying the Lord to comfort you in your time of sorrow.
Give all our love,
Ed and Claudia
