CHINO VALLEY - B's Contractors expects to complete the new two-story, 30,000-square-foot, 55-room Days Inn motel at 688 Fletcher Ct. in Chino Valley in six to eight weeks.

And the Arizona Department of Transportation hopes to complete rebuilding and paving about two miles of the northbound lanes of Highway 89 on the southern end of town by the third week in February.

Ab Jackson, the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce's chief executive officer, said the Days Inn will be a big boost for tourism and the economy of the town.

"For events like Territorial Days and Chino Valley's Hometown Christmas, instead of just coming up for a day, people can stay and take advantage of our restaurants and beautiful scenery," he said.

Jackson said the motel also will create jobs for the town's residents and taxes for the town.

Ernie Bombardieri, owner of B's Contractors, said his company started working on the $3.5 million project in October 2008.

"We're 75 percent complete. We're presently laying tile in the rooms, and still have to put the vinyl wallpaper on the walls and finish the flooring. Our crews also still have work to do on the outside," he said.

This Days Inn, he said, will have a 20-foot by 30-foot indoor swimming pool at the south end of the building.

The motel, Bombardieri said, will have 40-50 parking spaces on the two-acre parcel.

He said Taylor Architects designed the motel for its owner, Stetson LLC., which is owned by Jim and Kim Fletcher.

Once B's Contractors finishes the building, the Fletchers will move the furniture in and furnish the motel.

ADOT spokesman Bill Williams said the contractor planned to pave a test strip on the northbound lanes of Highway 89 Tuesday to see how the asphalt goes down. If all goes as planned, ADOT will pave the northbound lanes next week.

Crews also have placed the 18-inch water pipeline, which runs parallel to the road, underground, he said.

Williams said Kiewit construction officials expect to finish the work on the northbound lanes by the end of the third week in February. At that time, he said, Kiewit crews will start on the southbound lanes of Highway 89.

Williams expects the utility companies will have their lines switched to the new poles by the time Kiewit is ready to work on the southbound lanes, which are farther away from the highway than the old lines were.

"We are real pleased with Kiewit as they have gone 187 days on this project with no injuries," Williams said.

When the $19 million project is complete next fall, Williams said Highway 89 will have a raised median in between the northbound and southbound lanes with left turn lanes at Road 1 South, Road 2 South, Road 3 South and Road 4 South, plus four others between the road for people to get to businesses.

Any truth to the rumor that Denney's Restaurant will be located within the hotel?

3,000 square feet seems very small for a motel. My home is larger than that. Maybe the article should read 30,000 square-foot.
