Fry's recalls Foster Farms chicken over salmonella concerns

Kroger stores, including Fry's, have removed raw chicken products from three Foster Farms units over concerns of salmonella. The chicken products are sold under a variety of labels and identifiable by looking on packages for USDA inspection numbers: P6137, P6137A and P7632.

The company is removing the products after learning that the salmonella outbreak has sickened an estimated 278 people in 18 states.

The company is also initiating its customer notification system that alerts customers through register receipt tape messages and phone calls.

Customers should check for the referenced product. Any opened or unopened products with the above inspection numbers should be returned for a full refund.

Customers who have questions may contact Kroger at 1-800-KROGERS.

This recall is Kroger's decision. Foster Farms is NOT recalling any of the chicken. They are simply issuing advisories that say if you handle, store and cook the chicken correctly (to 165 degrees internal temp) there is no problem. The people who were sickened by the products in question had eaten undercooked chicken. This article does a grave disservice to the public by not presenting the facts on both sides of the issue. It is fear-mongering, plain and simple.

I purchased, opened and cooked one of the above listed Foster Farms chicken for dinner the other night. Later I was watching the news and imagine my surprise the same chicken was being recalled....I took the wrapper and the other unopened chicken to the Fry's where I purchased it and received a full refund...thankfully I only felt sick to my stomach and not actually sick.
