Deputy makes traffic stop, takes driver into custody for human smuggling
The Daily Courier

CAMP VERDE - A Yavapai County Sheriff's deputy who stopped a van for speeding on Interstate 17 took the driver into custody for smuggling illegal aliens after he found nine other people in the van, a YCSO spokesman said.

It happened Tuesday at about 4 a.m., Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said, when the deputy saw the van traveling 89 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone northbound on I-17.

The driver handed over only a Mexico ID card, D'Evelyn said, and while the driver was talking to the deputy, he saw eight passengers - three women and five men. D'Evelyn said the driver admitted they were undocumented aliens and he was taking them to Santa Fe, N.M.

As deputies were clearing the van, they found another man hiding under a large floor mat, he added. Three of the nine were juveniles.

D'Evelyn said the driver told deputies that he was transporting the passengers as part of a human smuggling rig, and had been given keys to the loaded van in Phoenix, was to drop them off and return, when he would be paid.

All 10 were taken to the Camp Verde jail pending release to U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement personnel.

Ok now calculate the time of the trip. Let the arrested driver return the van to location in Phoenix on time, Let arrested driver meet and collect money from coyotes. Arrest everyone. Now that would be great police work, or help out Eric Holder and give them ar-15s and return them to Mexico.
