Murder co-defendants to be tried separately
The Daily Courier

PRESCOTT - Laura Stelmasek and Marzet Farris III, each charged with first-degree murder in the death of Craig Stelmasek, will be tried in different courtrooms before different judges.

While the case against Farris, 46, was assigned to Division 5's Celé Hancock, Stelmasek, 45, was granted the right to have her trial heard by a judge other than Hancock Monday morning.

The pair is accused of killing Stelmasek's husband, Craig, 57, at their home in Prescott Valley, wrapping his body in a blanket and then driving the van to the Albuquerque International Sunport, where they allegedly abandoned it on June 5.

U.S. Marshals arrested them at a home in Raleigh, N.C.

Police said the body was not discovered for several days.

Monday, Hancock denied a motion to have the two cases "track" together.

Was there drug use involved? Seems like someone would have to be high to do this sort of disgusting thing.

To concerned: I don't see the problem, as it states in the second paragraph that Farris was assigned to Judge Hancock, and that Stelmasek was granted her right to a different judge. What is misleading about that? In the arrest warrant, Stelmasek was also charged with abandonment and concealment of a dead body, so I don't know what you think you know about the investigation, the charges are what they are. I don't find this article misleading at all. It states the facts very clearly.

I find it amazing that news articles can be so misleading. #1: It was Farris' case that remained in Judge Hancock's court. #2: The investigation, without any doubt whatsoever, revealed that Laura Stelmasek did NOT travel to Albuquerque in the van with the body.

Article comment by: Wishing the daughter well and in hopes she continues with her dreams.

The sweet daughter is said to be a brilliant young woman who aspires to go to university. I have been thinking about her often and hope she continues on with her dreams. My heart goes out to the family of friends who have said the victim was a wonderful man who always there to lend a hand. A very sad event.
