Prescott and Central Yavapai firefighters wait for an assignment at the Ponderosa Park command center for the Indian Fire south of Prescott, May 15, 2002. This yearís fire restrictions take effect on the earliest date since the year of that fire.
Fire-use restrictions go into effect Friday throughout the region, tying the 2002 record for the earliest seasonal fire restrictions on the books for the Prescott National Forest.

April 18 also happened to be the date the first-stage restrictions took effect in 2002 on the Prescott Forest. That year produced the Indian wildfire that burned several Prescott homes and ended up being the driest year on record.
