Peoria man to ride bike/run 108 miles to Prescott; trek is fundraiser for fallen Hotshots' families

In support of the 100 Club of Arizona and its mission to help the families of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who died in the Yarnell Hill fire June 30, Peoria resident Tim Kane said he will complete a 108-mile bike ride/run from Phoenix to Prescott on Sunday, July 14.

"I ask that you donate whatever you can to the 100 Club's Scholarship Fund," Kane said recently on his Facebook page. "The tragedy that unfolded will have an everlasting effect on the community and the families directly impacted by the loss of their loved ones."

Kane encourages folks to log on to www.100club.org, click on "Home" and then "Support/Donate" to give what they can through the website's Pay Pal donation page.

The scholarship fund is geared toward covering the future college tuition costs for immediate family members of the fallen firefighters.

At 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Kane said he will depart Peoria Fire Station No. 195, 23100 N. Lake Pleasant Parkway, on his bike and ride to Yarnell. He'll then dismount and run the rest of the way to Prescott, where he'll finish at Prescott Fire Station No. 7 on Sixth Street.

Kane added that he hopes to generate $25,000 for the families through the 100 Club. He respectfully asks that those who are interested in making a donation mention his name for tracking purposes. The 100 Club of Arizona is a nonprofit that for more than 40 years has provided financial and emotional support to public safety agencies, officers, firefighters, paramedics and their families.

For more information or to donate to the scholarship fund by phone, call the 100 Club's office in Phoenix at 602-485-0100.

Kane also welcomes you to email him at: timjkane11@gmail.com.

People run races, do laps around a track, etc. to raise awareness for an issue.

Only a few locals know of the heroic deaths of the hotshots so TIM KANE is raising awareness.

I give TIM KANE a big thumbs up. Any idea who the guy riding and running is? TIM KANE. He's even attached a photo of TIM KANE just to help.

@ REALLY....I do it because I support the mission of the 100 Club of AZ to selflessly serve the families of fallen Firefighters and Police Officers. This effort is predicated on the need to carry on the legacy of the 19 Hotshots who surely thought about their families in their final moments and asked "will someone be there to comfort and care for family"...the 100 Club answers that with a resounding "YES".
