CVHS track and field posts strong finishes in Sedona

Chino Valley High's track and field team pieced together a solid showing at the Sedona Invitational on Wednesday.

The Cougars' boys were led by Tory Marciel, who placed third in the 200 meters (23.42 seconds), third in the high jump (5 feet, 10 inches) and fifth in the 100m (11.86).

McKenzie Nez also had a good day, placing second in the 1600m (5:00), third in the 3200m (11:06) and seventh in the 800m (2:16).

Also standing out were Tim Rudiger, who was fourth in the 3200m (11:17); Michael Brillhart, who was fifth in the 110m hurdles (17.66); and Dylen Patrick, who was fifth in the triple jump (36' 9").

The Chino boys ultimately placed fifth out of 10 teams with 48 points.

Chino Valley's girls also fared well.

Maddie Zambrano placed third in the 100m hurdles (17.38); Caitlyn Ballard took third in the 100m (13.70) and sixth in the long jump (13' 10"); and Mariah Ahern was third in the 200m (27.62).

Also shining for the Cougars were Rachel Merritt, who captured second in the 100m (13.61); Elisabeth Cuka, who was fifth in the 100m hurdles (19.03); and Jenny Ballard, who was fifth in the discus (95') and seventh in the shot put (28' 2.5").

The Cougars' girls placed seventh out of 10 schools with 42.5 points.

Chino Valley will compete in the Yavapai County Track & Field Championships at Bradshaw Mountain High in Prescott Valley on Friday.
