Bradshaw Mtn. girls lose, tie at tourney

The Bradshaw Mountain girls' soccer team opened play Thursday at the Arizona Soccer Showcase, one of the biggest high school soccer tournaments in the state.

In their first action after Christmas, the Bears lost to Page 3-0 and tied Phoenix North Christian 1-1. Bradshaw was without some starters, but brought up some JV players for the tournament to get some reps.

The Showcase, in its second year, features 56 high school teams (32 boys, 24 girls) from Arizona and California, according to the AIA. The event, sponsored by Chandler Hamilton High, is played at Scottsdale Sports Complex, which is adjacent to the Tournament Players Club, home of the Phoenix Open golf tournament.

Brophy Prep won last year's boys bracket in the inaugural event, and a high school team from Hawaii won the girls' crown.

Along with the Bradshaw girls, the only other Yavapai County team in the field is the Cottonwood Mingus Union girls' team.

The Bears play Tucson Marana Friday as the tourney continues.
