The Daily Courier

Nothing like a cross country meet among neighbors to get ready for a really big cross country meet between neighbors.

Four area squads came together for the annual Bradshaw Mountain Invitational in Dewey on Saturday. It was a prelude of sorts for the Yavapai County Cross Country Championships later this month.

Saturday's Bradshaw Invite featured just four complete teams - Prescott, Chino Valley, Cottonwood's Mingus Union and the host Bears. The Badgers swept both the boys and girls team heats.

"Very competitive race between the local schools," Bradshaw Mountain coach Mike Simon said. "Overall just a great day for racing. Great weather, the course was fast. Excellent performances from all the local schools."

The local clubs have some time off before meeting for the big one, the Yavapai County Championships on Oct. 17 at Pioneer Park in Prescott. Last year's fall event drew Prescott, Bradshaw Mountain, Chino Valley, Mingus Union, Sedona Red Rock, Camp Verde, Orme School and Wickenburg.

The Chino Valley program before then will compete at the Santa Clarita Invite in Southern California this Saturday.
