Second trails planning meeting is Monday in Prescott

The second Greater Prescott Trails Planning meeting takes place at 6 p.m. Monday at the Adult Center of Prescott, 1280 E. Rosser St.

Organizers will briefly review the results of the first meeting in May before asking everyone in the audience to list their favorite proposed trail projects.

For more information, go online to greaterprescotttrails.net.

Greater Prescott Trails Planning is an effort to bring various trail users together and create a long-term vision for a Prescott-area trail system. A group of volunteers called the Community Forest Trust's Stewardship Forum is organizing the effort, with the help of local trails groups and local land managers including the Prescott National Forest, Yavapai County, City of Prescott and Town of Prescott Valley. Hiking, bicycle, equestrian and off-highway vehicle groups all are involved.

The planning area generally runs north to Chino Valley, east to Prescott Valley, south to Goodwin and west to Tonto Road.

Organizers hope to prioritize trail needs this summer, and then start implementing initial projects.

The Prescott Trails Safety Coalition has created a website where people can report trail conflicts, too. The site is seeking comments from all trail users about their experience. Go online to ptsc-2011.blogspot.com and click on "My Outdoor Experience."
