Over 175 people gathered at Mountain Valley Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Prescott Valley recently to participate in the Paws for Parkinson's Dog Walk & Expo. The event included a variety of activities, picnic lunch, more than 25 raffles and many prize drawings, but the best part of the day went to the

dogs.

Humans and their canine buddies took to the streets as they walked the 1.6-mile course. Some charged ahead, some ambled along and many stopped for water and a snack at the rest stop before moving on. Back at the event site, sponsors kept those waiting amused with activities and games while volunteers readied to serve a picnic lunch.

Raffle items were all donated by area businesses - everything from an oil change at Oil Can Henry's to Bowenwork therapeutic sessions from A Vital Touch and an assortment of gift cards for meals and products at places such as Prescott Station, In-N-Out Burgers, and Cracker Barrel.

Billed as "Fundraising to help people in Yavapai County affected by Parkinson disease and FUN FOR EVERYONE," the American Parkinson Disease Association Arizona Chapter will use the money raised to help the Prescott and Verde Valley support groups in their outreach, programs and meetings while also offering assistance with Parkinson specific exercise programs and regional conferences, a news release states.

In addition to Mountain Valley as the host sponsor, Yavapai Regional Medical Center acted as the presenting sponsor. Other sponsors included Medtronic, UCB and Teva Neuroscience. Alta Vista Retirement Community provided shuttle service to and from parking. Expo sponsors Abrio Family Services, Home Towne Cruise and Tour Center, Nurses Network, Tender Hearts and Walgreens all offered games and prizes to those attending.

An overnight getaway to Enchantment Resort in Sedona, Earth Wisdom jeep ride for two and dinner for two at Dahl & DiLuca Restorante Italiano will be awarded to the individual who raised the most money and will announced at the May 19 Prescott PD Support Group meeting. This group meets the third Thursday of every month, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 231 W. Smoke Tree Lane, Prescott. The public is welcome.
