Life Flight personnel rush a victim wounded in a stabbing attack on the Lone Star community college system's Cypress, Texas campus into Memorial Hermann Hospital, Tuesday in Houston. More than a dozen people were wounded when a suspect went building-to-building in an apparent stabbing attack.

CYPRESS, Texas - A student went on a building-to-building stabbing attack at a Texas community college Tuesday, wounding at least 14 people before being subdued and arrested, authorities said.

The attack about 11:20 a.m. on the Lone Star Community College System's campus in Cypress sent at least 12 people to area hospitals, including four people taken by helicopter, according to Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department spokesman Robert Rasa. He said several people refused treatment at the scene and all the wounds were consistent with stabbing.

Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia said officers responded to the campus after receiving a call about a male "on the loose" stabbing people. He said it was not immediately clear what type of weapon was used.

"Some of the details in the call slip did indicate that students or faculty were actively responding to work to subdue this individual," Garcia said, describing the man as being about 21 years old and enrolled at the college. "So we're proud of those folks, but we're glad no one else is injured any more severely than they are."

Lone Star officials initially urged people on campus, about 25 miles northwest of downtown Houston, to take shelter and be on alert for a second suspect. But the sheriff's department said a short time later that authorities believed just one person was responsible.

"It was the same suspect going from building to building," department spokesman Thomas Gilliland said.

Garcia said buildings still were being searched Tuesday afternoon.

Student Teaundrae Perryman said he was in class when he received a text message from a friend and went outside to see a young woman being loaded into an ambulance with what appeared to be stab wounds to either her neck or head. He said he didn't receive an email alert from the college until 11:56 a.m.

"I was concerned but I wasn't afraid because I was with a large group of people," the 21-year-old said, later adding, "The police got to the scene very quickly."

The four people taken by helicopter and two others with moderate injuries were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Of those six, two were in critical condition and four were in fair condition Tuesday afternoon, hospital spokeswoman Alex Rodriguez said.

One student said she learned one of her classmates was stabbed after leaving the school's Health Science Center building.

"I called to check on another classmate who was still inside the building and she said the classroom was on lockdown and she said one of the classmates had been stabbed," said Margo Shimfarr-Evans told KHOU-TV. "It happened in the hallway."

Courtland Sedlachek, 18, was in class when his phone started buzzing along with the phones of everyone else in class. The room was temporarily locked down, but students were let out and off campus a short time later, in what Sedlachek described as an orderly evacuation.

He described his reaction as a "little bit of nervousness."

The attack came three months after a different Lone Star campus was the site of a shooting in which two people were hurt. The suspected gunman in that incident is charged with aggravated assault.

Why are you so afraid of doing your own work?

You continue with the logical fallacies but refuse to do any research.

Find your own sources, your response informs us that you won't except ours.

You are the one that made the original claim about Barack Obama and guns, but when challenged, react with attacks, rather than facts.

You must be very afraid.

I find that sad.

@To: a bc, What logical fallcies? Nevermind, I won't hold my breath for any meaningful answer. So far your entire argument can be summed up this way, "You're ignorant, do your own homework." You've provided no evidence at all for any Obama anti-gun agenda because there is none. Your failure to produce any evidence only supports my claims that there is no anti-gun agenda. At this point I'm inclined to believe you are a troll or a conspiracy theorist. Either way, there is no reason to continue this discussion.

You may not see the logical fallacies you commit, but we do.

What are you so afraid of that you refuse to do any research on your own?

That you may find that your ignorance has misled you, but your ego can't take the hit?

Stop making excuses, do your own research, learn about the President's history.

Don't be afraid to learn.

You weren't born stupid, but your intransigence feeds your ignorance.

Starve it instead with facts.

Good luck!

@ To: a bc, No ad hominem that I can see, just sarcasm offered as a jab at your attempts to sound superior with your repeated ad hominem attacks on me about my level of intelligence. Do you not see the irony in calling me out for an ad hominem attack when so far that's been the only thing you've done in every single post?
In the end what you're really saying is you've got nothing because you've provided nothing - again.

@I'm just sayin', The comments made by Democratic Austin City Council member and potential next mayor? That's your evidence of Obama's anti-gun agenda? Yeah, I'm convinced. You've provided about as much evidence as To: a bc. Zero.

outlaw knives! recall all knives with a blade longer than 2". paring knives to Machetes, make them as illegal as semi-automatic rifles.

to those of you who ask the question "how would we eat?" I ask "how will I hunt?". The AR is the weapon I have over 20 years experience with in the military. Why should I be forced to use something else to protect you from the handful of wackos out there?

I see you have resorted to ad hominem attacks and sarcasm in an attempt to support your position.

You have failed to do so, but you have convinced us that your position has little merit or basis in fact.

Good luck with your education!

Please do your own work, don't ask me to do the research for which you are responsible.

Do your own work.

@To: a bc, Yeah, thanks for the heads up on the "your" "you're" thing. Good thing to know there's someone out there who never makes mistakes and is quick to point out the mistakes of others.
Ok, so you're not a full-blown conspiracy guy, but when you use phrases like "anti-gun agenda" you begin to sound like one. Sorry for any mischaracterization. You haven't mentioned where you stand specifically or given any examples of Obama's record that would point to a true "anti-gun agenda" (as in "they're coming take away your guns"). Care to post any? Sure you can look at his entire record, but what has he done as president, when he has so much power? Not so much.

"Obamas focus during his presidency so far has seemed to try to walk a line between gun control and gun rights. During the Democratic National Convention in 2008, for example, Obama spoke about finding common ground between supporters of both sides: The reality of gun ownership may be different for hunters in rural Ohio than they are for those plagued by gang violence in Cleveland, but dont tell me we cant uphold the Second Amendment while keeping AK-47s out of the hands of criminals, he said.

So far, however, the only legislation the president has signed since he took office in 2008 has expanded gun laws, allowing loaded guns in national parks and unloaded weapons stored in luggage on Amtrak trains." Frontline PBS

An armed citizen would most likely have become a target and shot by the police and or another armed citizen.

You pull a gun in a situation then be prepared to be shot by the police. I don't think they ask you first who you are, especially in light of you firing your weapon and killing someone.

Pull your gun and become a target!!!

You need to look back at his entire political record, not just since mid-2008.

Do your research, learn the truth, stop revealing your ignorance.

BTW, revealing your bias by categorizing and stereotyping me only does more to illustrate your failings, as does your use of "your" as a contraction for the term "you are."

Please go back to school, if not for our sake, then for your own.

To a bc:

Democratic Austin City Council member and potential next mayor Mike Martinez admitted during a speech that the Obama administration’s long term gun control agenda is focused on banning firearms altogether.

Obama's true agenda is total a total gun ban, no matter what he tells you Democrat sheeple who actually believe the guy.

@to a bc, Obama does not have an "anti-gun agenda" as you call it. Look back through his campaign rhetoric and tell me where he is specifically "anti-gun". If anything he avoided specifics and accept things the way they stood. Gun control was not a big issue in the last campaign. A return to an assault weapons ban was discussed, but no specifics, but if you think that is "coming for your guns" or "anti gun", then okay. But whatever, you guys see conspiracy in everything the current administration does.
And your right. No one should listen to me.

You revealed your ignorance when you stated BO had no anti-gun agenda before he was elected president.

Thus insuring that informed readers and posters will disregard your opinions and attempts to persuade.

Do some research, exercise your critical thinking skills.

@Tom, An excited armed citizen with dubious or no training could have made this a lot worse, he might of missed and killed innocent students. What would several armed citizens shooting up the place lead to? One can only imagine. Guy with knife is confronted by gun toting citizen number 1. Citizen number 1 correctly shoots knife guy, but wait!, armed citizen number 2 enters the scene and only sees citizen number 1 shooting some guy. Citizen 2 shoots citizen 1. Enter citizen number 3 who arrives late to the ruckus...Then the cops arrive and one has to wonder how they'd approach this scene. Yeah, lets arm everyone. Good times.
By the way, people who end up killing other people, even for the right reason, more often than not end up needing psychological analysis.
Also, doesn't this campus have armed security. Of course it does. Shows how well the whole arming the teacher/staff thing might work out.
@ex pat, What would you suggest?

If the students were armed someone would have been killed by gunfire. This guy would have "brought a knife to a gunfight".

Unarmed civilians subduing a knife-wielding madman kinda begs the question of why trained police officers, in the same situation, find it necessary to shoot to kill. @ a bc -- Sorry, but anyone who believes that giving the most violent segment of society more laws to enforce is the solution to gun violence deserves to parodied.

@to a bc, You people write as if there is no gun violence problem in America. Obama had no agenda concerning guns when he took office. He didn't campaign for any such thing, but after repeated mass shootings and continuing smaller scale violence, the issue has been forced upon his administration and the congress. People want to see some kind of action, or do you think we should do nothing? Making light of this tragedy to highlight your worries about gun control isn't helping your cause. Making this satirical guns and knives comparison looks a little like the more familiar "cars kill people too, maybe we should take cars away from people" argument and is just as lame.

Let's shift to self defense and respect the 2nd amendment. An armed citizen could have limited the damage done by this (person). And no psychological analysis would be required and no additional laws created.

It is easy to berate and criticize!

It would be more productive if all this energy was used to come up with a solution or to offer even just one suggestion that would be acceptable and reduce the violence.

Put those great minds to work!

Sarcastic and childish comments notwithstanding, had this person used a GUN we'd be talking about 14 people (or more) DEAD instead of just injured.

We'll never stop all the crazy people out there, but this serves as just another example of how less guns make a safer society.
