The Arizona Old Time Fiddlers Spring Campout event is at Mayer High School today through Saturday.

Old Time Fiddlers Mile High Chapter President John Kennedy said he first attended fiddlers'campouts in the mid-1980s in Black Canyon City. In the past few years, the event has been in Cornville.

The new site was chosen to be "as centrally located as possible (for) OTF members from all around the state to attend and enjoy," Kennedy said.

Kennedy said he was contacted last year for some assistance in finding a new site for the campout that could accommodate dry camping, provide a stage and have room for inside "jamming." The school, he said, is an ideal location because the campout is during spring break.

Kennedy said when he approached Mayer High School Principal Jeff Duncan about cost, Duncan suggested a donation to the Booster Club. "That led to a conversation about how the community might be involved both for their enjoyment and also to attract enough numbers that the Booster Club could make a few dollars doing meals," Kennedy said.

The campout will feature a variety of music, stage shows, and old-time country dances appropriate for families and all ages, with the Booster Club serving reasonably priced meals. Vendors are welcome and camping is available to OTF and other performing musicians.

Admission is free and the public is welcome. For camping information, call 642-1200. For general information on the campout, call 713-0429 or 853-3577 or visit ArizonaOldTimeFiddlers.org.
