PRESCOTT - A Sheriff's detective on Monday arrested a man accused of stealing valuables from cars at trailheads near Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek on at least a dozen occasions, a YCSO spokesman said.

Andy Roncaglia, 31, of Sedona, was arrested after detectives set up surveillance at the Long Canyon trailhead and spotted him looking into vehicle windows, then looking for a rock to smash one, said Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn.

Roncaglia denied that he was going to break into the vehicle, claiming he was waiting for a friend, but couldn't explain why he had been looking into cars, D'Evelyn said.

When detectives looked into his own truck's bed, they found shoes with sole prints matching ones found at previous trailhead burglaries; they also found a pink purse in the cab, D'Evelyn said, and Roncaglia told them it was his girlfriend's purse, but the ID inside did not match.

He admitted he'd stolen it earlier that morning from a vehicle at the Devil's Bridge trailhead, D'Evelyn said.

Roncaglia has now been linked to at least 12 vehicle burglaries at the two trailheads, and detectives are looking into the possibility that he was involved with a burglary at the Seven Canyons pro shop, where he worked, and other area property crimes, said D'Evelyn, who added that Roncaglia admitted a drug habit was behind the thefts for the past three months.

Roncaliga was booked into the Camp Verde jail on 12 counts each of burglary, defacing/damaging property, theft, and two narcotics violations. He's being held on a $35,000 bond.

Thanks YCSO
I know you can't make promises, but
I feel better about parking at those trail heads now.
I'd say this is much better work than worrying about a free American adult in their own home growing and using dope.

Outstanding job YCSO!!

Folks are often quick to criticize your actions, but yet they fall strangely silent when you take a bad guy off the street.

Great work!
